A will for James McCreery in Stark County records,
Volume A page 85 was probated 08 September 1825. The will
references sons-in-law William
Finton and John Mowl and sons Thomas and Samuel McCreery, also 2
children of
deceased daughter Elizabeth Wingate, and wife Maryann McCreery.
Daughter Roseanna Finton is not mentioned by
name but her husband is. James McCreery,born, estimated 1770 in
probable what is now Pa., but at that time considered part of Virginia.
He died about 1825. Estate
was administered for wife Mary Ann in 1827. Census records
and county history biographies indicate he had a brother John McCreery,
b. 1770 Va. or Pa. (Married Margaret Slutts).

information concerning James McCreery:
He was born 7/27/1767 in Botetcourt Co. Va. and died Oct. 1825.
Married twice: 1) Rebecca Broadwater 2/11/1786 and 2) Mary Ann
Mowls 10/3/1822.

that at a Court of Common Pleas of the County of Tuscarawas began and
held in
the town of New Philadelphia within and for said County on the
sixteenth day of
November in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty
six. Present the Honorable Alexander
Harper President, Thomas Cummings
Nicholas Neighbour and Henry Laffer Esquires his associate Judges of
said Court, the said Court order that the Letters of Administration of
the
Estate of Margaret McCreery Deceased be granted to William Finton, that
he give
bonds in the sum of Two hundred dollars and the Court so further order
that
Samuel Lappin Sr, Samuel Lappin Jr and Daniel Castard appraise said
estate and
thereupon said Administrator appeared, filed his bond with James Finton
and
George Cullers security which bonds is approved by the Court here--And
afterwards
to wit on fifth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand
Eight
hundred and twenty six comes said administrator and having been duly
qualified
to discharge his several duties as such Letters of Administration
issued,
directed and delivered to him is the words and figures following to

Wills and for granting Letters of Administration
in and for said County to William Finton : Greetings, Whereas Margaret
McCreery Deceased lately died
intestate (as is affirmed) having whilst she lived and at the time of
her
decease diverse goods,
chattels, rights and credits within the said County. By means
whereof the fulldisposition and
power of granting Letters of Administration thereof is manifestly known
to
belong to them the said
Judges, they therefore desiring that the said goods and chattels which
were of
the deceased may be well and truly administered, converted and disposed
of
according to law, do grant unto you the said William Finton full power
by the
tenor of these presents to Administer the goods and chattels rights and
credits
which were of the said deceased, within the said County, as also to
ask,
collect, levy, recover and receive the credits whatsoever of the
deceased which
at the time of her death were owing or did in any way belong to her and
to pay
the debts in which the said deceased stood bound so far forth as the
said goods
and chattels, rights and credits will
Extent according to the rate and order of the Law and for that purpose
you are
to call on all creditors of the said Deceased by advertising four weeks
in
succession in a newspaper printed in said county to exhibit to you
their lawful
claims within one year from the date hereof. - You shall under oath or
affirmation have all the goods and chattels of the said Deceased so far
forth
as shall come within your knowledge appraised by Samuel Lappin Sr,
Samuel
Lappin Jr and Daniel Custard who are thereby appointed for that purpose
a true
and accurate Inventory thereof signed by said appraisers and also a
true and
accurate statement of the debts due and owing to the estate so far as
may be
known to you shall be by you returned to the Clerk of the Court of
Common Pleas
for said County in his office within three months and shall moreover
render a
plain and perfect account calculation and reckoning of your said
administration
upon your solemn oath or affirmation within Eighteen months from the
date
hereof. And they the said Judges do
hereby ordain, constitute and appoint you the said William Finton
Administrator
of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits
aforesaid. In Testimony whereof I Andrew Seaton Deputy
Clerk P.T. of said Court have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal

Co. in 1820, Tuscawaras Co. 1830 (They may not have moved just changes
in county boundries) and 1840 Clermont Co., Batavia Twp. From
census records they were both born 1790 to 1794. No 1850 census
record located, so possibly died before 1850
