Generation 4
Family has been verified from Phillip
on by
author.
Phillip Spiker was probably born in 1791 in
Pa. He
married Rebecca Markee daughter
of William Markee on 10-27-1814
in Harrison Co. Oh. He
served twice in the Ohio Militia during the war of 1812. As a
private in Capt. George Richardson's 3rd Regt., muster roll for
Aug 20 to Oct 30 1812. Roll is dated Molickon Area, Mansfield,
Oh.
Oct. 29,1812 receiving $6.66 pay. Also served at Beems Block
House for 2 months in Thomas Latta's Comp. discharged on 3-29-1813 at
lower Sandusky Fort. He received two bounty land warrants for
service and Rebecca received a Widow's pension (copies of Military
records, pension applications, etc are in file). He was unable to
write
and signed with an X. A land entry for Philip Spiker on 10/9/1813
for 133.58 acres at 6-12-31 NW 1/4 was located in 2010. History
of Harrison Co.Oh. indicates he
owned
a hotel in Tippecanoe(Norrisville). He sold land as joint
owner with Henry Spiker. He served as executor of Christian
Spiker's will. There were 6 Spiker's in the area in 1820 Census a
Christian, Christopher, Henry, Isaac, Phillip, and Samuel. No
direct relationship has been established. The above facts would
indicate he was related to Henry and Christian. The oldest
Spiker's on census were an Isaac and Christopher who in their wills
show no relationships. The were probably all related and moved for Pa.
to Ohio together. From other research, it appears the Spiker's
temporarily settled in Allegany Co. Md. In the History of the
Village of Deersville, Ohio 1815-1952 by Poulson: The Christian Spiker
family came to Ohio about 1790-1806 from Berlin, Pa.,present Somerset
Co.,(Old Bedford Co.). Ancestory back to Colonial days,
originally from Holland.
Correspondence in 2003 with another
Spiker researcher shows the following
information: Phillip Spiker
was born in 1791 in
Virginia, (the confusion considering
Virginia-Pennsylvainia border disputes, does not make this fact
conflicting with
above). He was the son of Samuel Spiker and Ann Hockman.
